This story takes us back to Justin’s childhood and culminates in his catastrophic pursuit by talon schreechers not long before he meets Chari and Fi. It is best read as the third book in the Chronicles.

Escaping from prison, Thomas Starmereion goes to the aid of the dragon Nolies, and is befriended by the griffin pirate, Clawgold. Cerosorn fingers; the vicious cockatrice, enslavement by the Evil Tingle await him, before Thomas glimpses fleeting happiness.

Far away, Justin a young prince is battling against his malicious mother, and her wicked gaoler, Wormwood. Dangers and tragedy engulf him. Then as the “Bed of Blood” becomes a reality, he rebels, turns traitor and is doomed to face the Gallows Run. Meanwhile Thomas discovers the link between himself and Justin. Will he be in time to help the young prince?
